What to look for in your wedding venue

What should you look for in a wedding venue?

For newly engaged couples a wedding venue is the usually the first item on the to-do list. And many couples find it difficult knowing where to start. Do you look for an all-day venue or a separate ceremony and reception venue? In my experience there are many more couples now looking for an all-day venue, allowing them to be in one place for both their ceremony and wedding reception.

Whether it’s a civil or religious ceremony, be sure to check that the venue is licensed… if it’s not, don’t despair. Many county councils can arrange a legal and celebratory ceremony or civil partnership package in two parts. The legal marriage or civil partnership takes place in a local authority ceremony room. Followed by a celebratory ceremony at your venue of choice, either inside or out.

It’s easy to get excited about a venue and fall in love. It’s important that you have your requirements list ready when shortlisting places. Help your head to rule your heart! The right venue should reflect a couple’s personality – fun and quirky, sophisticated and elegant, traditional or modern.

The venue will determine many aspects of your day. It’s an important decision and narrowing down your search can be tricky. I work with couples to shortlist venues based on their likes and dislikes, thinking about the date, how many guests will be attending and how long for (will they need overnight accommodation), the suppliers you can use, the décor and styling and of course the cost and overall budget.
